In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

What does it say?

In the beginning — God created — the heaven and the earth.

Dan Green wrote a good outline about Genesis 1:1 — for a “Kid Talk”.

Many people have tried to work out how the world began – but they can only guess because they weren’t there when the world began. The Bible teaches that there was someone there! This person (the Bible tells us) has no beginning or end – He is eternal. This person is God.

No parachutes Anna, living by faith says:

God wasn’t simply creating for nothing. It says that God was hovering over the water. I can imagine God as the father who is preparing a nursery for his children just before they are born…

Moses and the Burning Bush.

Now Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he led his flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. And the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. – Exodus 3:1,2 (ESV)

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
And God saw the light, that [it was] good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

Wow! Carl wrote about Genesis 1:3-5 today also.

Light. It has always been associated with God. The first thing that God makes for this planet, for this universe, is light. Did God at this time create the laws and physics that make up light at this time in history? Did He create prisms of light and rainbows, or simply bring it to this world to shine on it and help create our times of work and rest?

The Blog – Morsels from God – was talking about light (last Friday) – from a parallel passage in the Gospel of John:

The Word gave life to everything that was created, and His life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. — John 1:4-5

God made day and God made night,
He split the darkness from the light.

On the first day God made the light. He called light “day”, and darkness “night”.
